Romania put on hold application processing for restoration of Romanian citizenship. The representative of the Romania-Moldova Relations Department announced that this measure was temporary and receipt of applications would be resumed shortly.
This decision was made to facilitate a checkup initiated by the National Citizenship Authority in Bucharest. The authority responded to complaints of Moldovan citizens claiming that the order of document processing is being abused.
The Romanian authorities found the sharp rise in applications from Russian and Ukrainian citizens suspicious. There is no specific time frame for resuming the procedure, yet the officials in Bucharest promise fast resolution of the issue.
