The government has today announced several reforms to the Tier 1 (Investor) route.

The changes:

  • Require that investors provide evidence that they have been in control of the investment funds for at least last two years, rather than 90 days, or provide evidence of the source of funds.
  • Mean that UK banks must confirm that required checks have been completed before opening an investment account.
  • Involve a tightening of the rules regarding investment in companies.
  • Do not include investments in government bonds.

The reformed scheme will come into effect from 29th March 2019.
