Last year, the Brexit deadlines of March and October saw an increase of UK applicants by seven percent. More than 900,000 Irish travel documents were issued in 2019.

During peak periods, almost 6,000 daily applications from across the globe could be submitted in a single day. Monthly figures exceeded 100,000 in January, March, April and May 2019.

Brexit has also encouraged Irish citizens living in the UK to consider a passport of Éire. The Irish Passport Office had a lot of work last year keeping all processes in place while maintaining security and integrity.

Irish Minister of State for European Affairs Helen McEntee noted that the Customer Service Hub established in January 2019 is capable of processing up to 10,000 queries a week.

One of the celebrated applicants for the Irish passport was Noel Gallagher of Oasis. Gallagher’s application contradicts his own previous recommendations to ‘get over’ the referendum outcome.
