Russian investors amid global pandemic are getting more interested in obtaining second citizenship, Astons’ representative Konstantin Kaminskiy told in a commentary for the global news agency RIA Novosti. According to Kaminskiy, the most popular government-approved programme among Russians is the St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment programme.

“This year shows that the freedom of travel and comfortable foreign real estate are as timely as ever. We are dealing with a lot of requests from Russia, where travel is still limited due to pandemic”, — says Konstantin.

St Kitts and Nevis passport can be obtained in two months without leaving your house and it allows its holder and their family to travel visa-free to 152 countries, including EU and the United Kingdom.

Russian clients are also interested in various investment options in Europe that allow them to travel to EU countries. The pandemic shows that Schengen visas can be useless in these circumstances, as European countries close their borders for tourists.

Citizenship investment programs became more popular this year mostly because they open a possibility for investors to choose where to spend these turbulent times, says Mr. Kaminskiy. Some of the clients are the ones who had already asked for consultation but didn’t decide until pandemic. But it’s not only Russians, notes Kaminsky. According to Astons’ expert, many investors from the USA and Great Britain turned their eye on citizenship programs as Europe is mostly closed for Americans due to pandemic, and British citizens are going to experience visa difficulties after the end of the Brexit transitional period.
