Dual and multiple citizenships are taken out when a person decides and is permitted to hold more than one nationality. This can be for a variety of reasons ranging from the security of knowing there is an alternative safe country to live in during times of danger or unrest; to multiple financial and business reasons; to the opportunity to join family in other countries and benefit from that country’s opportunities and to provide ease of visa-free travel across the world.

However, not every country allows their citizens or citizens of other countries to hold more than one nationality. China, Montenegro and Poland for example, do not allow any kind of dual citizenship.

Below we list the 78 countries who do allow dual or multiple citizenship.
