ADVANTAGES OF THE PROGRAMME

This programme does not have any requirements for the source of your income, what is necessary is its presence.

It can be leasing of rental estate, dividends or even your pension.

The official name of the programme is D7 Retirement Visa. The choise of the name is explained by the popularity of Portugal with foreign pensioners due to its soft climate, high standard of living and high-level helathcare outcomes, attractive real estate pricing and tax benefits.

This programme involves permanent stay of the resident in Portugal. The minimal term of the stay is 193 days continuously or 8 months (with travels) within 2 years.

The visa programme is aimed at engaging foreign investors who have a regular or steady passive income. Therefore, the visa has become popular with “digital nomads” (i.e. people who are not bound to a working place, follow a mobile lifestyle and work in the field of digital and telecommunication technologies).

Terms of participation in the programme

The key condition for obtaining D7 Visa is the confirmation of a sufficient level of income which will let the applicant live comfortably in Portugal.

  • Regular income

    • Confirmation of a regular income higher than the minimal wage in Portugal (€ 705 per month or € 8 460 per year).
In order to obtain the visa for a family, the applicant’s income is to amount +50% of the minimal wage per a spouse, and +30% per each child.
    • For example, the total income for a family with one child is to amount: € 705 (100%) + € 355 (50%) + € 212 (30%) = € 1 272 per month (€ 15 228 per year).
  • Leasing or purchase of real estate

    • Long term rental property or its purchase.
    • Portugal does not request for a minimal cost, though the process must be totally legal: the applicant is required to provide the account statements of transfer funds and the lease agreement.
  • A deposit on an account

    • A bank account in Portugal with a deposit not less than € 30 000.
    • The deposit does not increase due to the number of people in the application. The funds are not to be frozen, therefore, they are allowed to be used after receiving the resident’s ID card.
