The government of Cyprus has decided to gradually ease the lockdown starting from 4th May. This is exciting news for investors looking for opportunities in these challenging times.

From 4th May all restrictions for construction business are lifted. All retail shops, excluding malls and department stores, will be reopened subject to various rules regarding hygiene. Farmers markets and bazaars are also permitted to operate as usual.

Residents will be allowed three external movements from their homes per day.

The public sector returns to full operations, and all employees except those who are vulnerable or need to provide childcare may return to their offices. The courts will also resume normal operations.

Students within their final year of secondary school will go back to class on 11th May. Tele- schooling will continue for other age groups. Dental services will also resume.

Starting from 21st May, all restrictions limiting residents from leaving their homes will be lifted. Parks and other recreational areas may be used for groups of no more than 10 people. Hairdressers and beauty salons will be allowed to operate and catering establishments can reopen, but only with outdoor seating.

Beginning from 1st June the ports will resume full operation and beaches, museums and cultural sites will reopen for public access.

Cyprus is one of the most successful examples of effective action, mostly due to strict and well-timed decisions. The government of Cyprus plans to support its economy by relaxing rules for the Citizenship by Investment program. Firstly, this includes the introduction of remote document submission, fast-tracking existing applications and the lifting of restrictions for investors with a political or governmental past. These applicants, as with any others, will be subject to strict anti-money-laundering checks.
